Wood lathes for woodturning : Reviews and Articles
Buying wood lathes is not an easy task when you know little or nothing about woodturning. I found it to be a daunting experience.
Buying my first woodturning lathe was just a sea of confusion as I battled to get my head around tailstocks, face places, chucks and the like.
I guess I am lucky in that I have a friend who is a very good amateur woodturner and also that craft supplies (the home of woodturning) is only a couple of miles from my home.
As soon as I decided to make this woodturning site, I therefore decided to include reviews and articles about wood lathes. Whether you intend to buy a new or used wood lathe, hopefully these pages will be of some use.
My first wood lathe turned out to be an SIP 1200mm which is featured in an article below. I have found this lathe is more than enough for a beginner to woodturning. Again I got lucky in that this model had been used by a professional woodturner for just a few hours at a woodturning exhibition. The resulting discount I received was put towards a Supernova 4 jaw chuck which has been excellent.
Read the articles, enjoy whichever make and model of wood lathe you choose, but please remember that safety is a very important consideration when operating wood lathes. Always wear face protection and take steps to avoid inhaling the dust that woodturning creates.
