This small bowl (above) is made from the mixed bag of bowl blanks I got from Craft Supplies. Being new to woodturning I have to confess I don't have a clue what wood this is, but it turned nicely into a small bowl about 4 1/2 inches diameter.

This is the first piece of brazilian purpleheart (Peltogyne Venosa) I have turned. I wanted to try this wood as I used to live in Brazil and I saw Tony Wilson turning this wood at the Craft Supplies annual show in Bakewell during 2005. The wood turns brown when turned before gradually turning back to purple on exposure. This is only a small bowl just under 5 inches diameter but I'll be buying more of this for future woodturned bowls.
