Woodturned Demonstration

Saturday 24th June called for an impromptu woodturning demonstration as part of “Wakes Week” in Tideswell, Derbyshire in the UK. The festival itself has been a tradition for around 750 years and involves well dressing, a treasure hunt and many other usual carnival type activities.

Talking on Saturday morning, Chris was cajoled into moving his Record lathe from it's home in the shed to an undercover area in the yard off the main street where the parade of floats passes through.

During the day a steady stream of people dropped in to watch Chris woodturning a variety of bowls and assorted items, one of which is pictured here. This is a piece of Laburnum which is a pleasant wood to look at but can be potentially dangerous since the leaves, seeds and even the roots contain a poisonous alkaloid.

Luckily, Chris faced no such dangers during his woodturning demonstration which entertained numerous people throughout the day.
