Woodturning Tools
Buying woodturning tools is very much a matter of personal taste together with the woodturning projects you want to undertake.
My first set of woodturning tools was a spindle turning starter set which comprised a roughing out gouge, spidle gouge, oval skew chisel, round nose scraper, parting tool and bedan.
These woodturning tools are still part of my tool collection although I have since bought individual bowl gouges as I spend more time turning bowls.
Choosing Woodturning Tools
The minimum standard for woodturning tools should be M2 High Speed Steel (HSS) although there are metals which will outlast M2 HSS by a considerable amount. These Hamlet woodturning tools are made from ASP2030 and ASP2060 high alloy high speed tool steel. The ASP2030 steel outlasts M2 by 3 times, while the ASP2060 range of woodturning tools will last 4.5 times the length of M2 steel.
