Amazaque
(Guibourtia Ehie) This medium sized tree can grow between 30 and 45 metres high with a diameter of under 1 metre. The sapwood is pale compared to the heartwood which varies from a yellow-brown to chocolate colored. This wood turning wood can be sawn failry well but the grain can make planing difficult. This timber is often used for cabinet making and furniture in addition to woodturning.
Amboyna
(Pterocarpus Indicus) Also known as Amboyna Burl which is known to come from the Phillipines, this medium sized tree grows in excess of 25 metres and a diameter of 1 metre. Smaller trees produce highly figured wood. Highly sought after pieces are often used for veneer. This member of the Paduak family makes for beautiful turnery.
Ash
(Fraxinus Excelsoir) The wood turning wood is popular in its native United Kingdom where it grows to a height of 25-30 metres and a diamater between 0.5 and 1.5 metres. Sometimes difficult to read sapwood from the heartwood in smaller logs. This wood turns and finishes well, often being used for cabinet making and furniture.
